Breathless Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa
Breathless Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa opened just a little over a year ago in May 2016, and has a unique appeal for our party-seeking clients. Earlier this year we stopped by Breathless during a multi-resort tour and enjoyed an evening of entertainment. The resort was amazing and beautiful by night, and we knew we wanted to send more clients to Breathless and also experience the party for ourselves.
Several months later in September we made the trip back and spent 3 nights / 4 days at Breathless Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa. We are happy to report the party did not let us down!!
Breathless Resort and Spa Review
Service & Check-in
Service in Mexico tops pretty much all vacation destinations across the Caribbean. Staff are known for remembering your name and your favorite cocktail so you’re never empty handed, and general friendliness and willingness to go above and beyond is completely standard. The Breathless Resort and Spa was no different.
We chose to upgrade to the Xhale Club Room Category (more about it’s perks later) so for check-in we were taken to the private Xhale Club lounge, avoiding the time-share reps who do roam the main lobby.
Drinks were served immediately, and this guy was our favorite bartender at the private Xhale Club lounge. In the evenings I required a little caffeine to go with my alcohol 🙂
This is a party resort, so extra time and care is spent going over “rules” at check-in and ensuring adults recognize they are responsible for their own adult beverage intake and well-being. In addition to reviewing party rules, check-in also covered a lot of great information about the resort and they answered any question you may have about making reservations for restaurants (only for the hibachi) and the Spa (reservation always needed).
About 20 minutes later, we were escorted to our rooms along with our bags and we were off to explore the party!
Pools / Party
Speaking of the party… there are three distinct pools creating 3 distinct sections of the resort:
Xcelerate – For those seeking the party scene day and night, this is the section of the resort for you. Cool aspects of this pool includes raised DJ platform, see through pool windows, sunken seating inside the pools, and great lights in the evening including giant fire pits inside the pool. Tops for ladies are optional and the bubble pool party will make you feel like you’re at the craziest Vegas party around!
Allure – This pool is probably the most similar atmosphere to other adult only all-inclusive resorts. A pool bar and upbeat music, pool volleyball and a general good time. The Allure pool is where we met our vacation friends, a group of like-minded ladies from Pittsburgh who spotted Brian’s Steelers hat and we knew we made life-long friends!
Xhale Club – This pool is specifically for those guests staying in the Xhale Club, and if you’re looking for quiet relaxation and personal drink service, this is the pool for you. While most days were spent at the Allure pool, a couple mornings we relaxed at the quiet and serene Xhale Club pool which offered even higher levels of service with assistance finding the right chair, laying out our towels and ushering water (it was morning) to our table asap!
The party never seemed to end, with music at Xcelerate into the morning hours, dancers, entertainers and karaoke at the night club After Dark, which doubles on Football Sundays as the resort’s sport’s bar.
If there was one category of disappointment, it would be in the food category. While not enough for us to not recommend Breathless, it came in below some of our other favorite all-inclusive resorts such as Excellence and Now Jade. It was hit or miss, some meals were absolutely amazing (sushi dinner at the Pan-Asian restaurant) and others seemed to be trying too hard and missing the mark (lunch at the Tapas restaurant). We ended up at the buffet the last 2 days for both breakfast and lunch and that did not disappoint. There are plenty of healthy options including a smoothie bar and plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, salad and my personal favorite, 4 kinds of ceviche!
It is an all-inclusive and restaurant portions tend to be small, so when our Pittsburgh friends recommended ordering 2 entrees at the Italian restaurant we took their advice. An appetizer, soup, 2 entrees and 1 dessert later…that was the night for an early bedtime for sure.
Rooms were well put together and had really nice views all over the property. The Ocean views are pretty solid, bordering on oceanfront in many cases, and the swim-out suites are our personal favorite. We do highly suggest the upgrade to the preferred clubs (Xhale Club) because of the extra amenities such as dedicated restaurant to the club, free spa treatments, guaranteed seats at the pool and beach, upgraded mini bar, pillow menu and daily restocking of M&Ms and Pringles chips! Room service was also quick and good, though they limit your order to 4 items at a time and the menu after 11pm is limited.
The bed was comfortable, pillow menu was a great perk, and comforter was comfy but nothing extrodinary. (We’ve been to Sandal’s resorts and compare every bed/pillow/comforter combo to that resort).
If you are staying in the Xhale Club, the hour-plus long hydrotherapy treatment is included (over $100 value). We both experienced the hydrotherapy, a combination of hot and cold water treatments, steam room and sauna, as well as feet and back water-massage in the main pool. The therapy was extremely relaxing, a definite hangover cure, and was the perfect warm up to the 50 minute Swedish massage.
While we did not take advantage, there was also a Fish Spa Treatment which has been pretty trendy and popular over the last several years.
As usual, Mexico continues to wow us on the service side. There was only one or two instances that were anything but extraordinary. We truly believe that it provides the most value of all destinations when discussing all-inclusives. We believe it is not even close.
Everything was clean, beautiful, however greenery needs time to grow. Not enough shade because of this. (Remember, Breathless Riviera Cancun is less and 2 years young!) Beach was “ok” at best, but this is a pool resort, not a beach resort.
Overall, we enjoyed our time at the resort and would never hesitate to send folks that want to have a great time and party like they are in Vegas, only better because it’s all-inclusive! An absolutely perfect resort for those looking for a bachelor or bachelorette party destination, or any getaway with friends.
